Career Studio's Digital Media team were commissioned by a new charity, Association for Character Education (ACE), to design the branding and website, along with marketing materials and additionally an awards plaque, which would be given to schools who are awarded the 'Schools of Character' award.

Solution

This project concerned a visual identity for the Association of Character Education. The basic form for the ACE branding is the diamond. Our concept and our basis for the development of the brand’s visual language is the diamond logotype, a symbol of 4 points that define the 4 building blocks of character education, which was designed with simplicity, elegance and efficiency in mind. We took these 4 components of character education as the concept for the basic identity element and gave it an abstract form to create an icon that was representative of the organisation, then integrated it with a simple typographic selection, resulting in the logotype. We a chose a muted purple tone as the basis of the colour palette. With each shape, it was possible to create a series of interactions, with personality. As a counterweight, the logotype enhances the basic shapes, but possess sobriety and weights to endure and evolve with the association. The aim with good design is to have as little design as possible and it’s the sum of this philosophy that defines this conceptual overarching element of the diamond, which is made up with three diamonds and negative space. These basic shapes that can be linked together in all kinds of ways, in any materials produced, resulting in the possibility of various design outcomes for multiple applications.

Our design and simplification of the branding and the use of elegant typography, emphasise the professionalism of the association, highlights the diversity of its fields of interest, and makes a clear connection with educational values. The resulting collateral and website have served as a great start for the charity and is proving to be an effective promotional tool.
